Speed an Apparent Factor in Fatal Bronx Car Accident

Q: Am I limited to “no-fault” insurance if I’m seriously injured in a car accident?

A "horrific" multi-vehicle Bronx car accident claimed the life of the 18-year old driver of one of the cars involved and reportedly critically injured his teenaged passenger.

Truck accidents rarely end well for the occupants of the other vehicles involved due to the disparity in the size and weight between the tractor-trailers and regular cars. For that reason, trucking companies and their drivers are subject to stricter laws and safety regulations in an effort to reduce truck accidents. Here, the trucker was apparently stopped or almost stopped when the teen struck the semi.

While it wasn't clear if the 18-year-old driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash, he was reportedly speeding on the Cross-Bronx Expressway around 4:15 AM when he came upon stopped traffic ahead. The teen reportedly lost control of his car after he slammed into the tractor-trailer. His car then apparently spun into and bounced off of the guard rail and struck an SUV--finally stopping as a crumpled heap of twisted metal. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene while his passenger was rushed to the hospital. Reportedly, the tractor-trailer driver suffered "minor injuries" but the SUV driver wasn't injured.

If you are seriously injured in a car accident that was not your fault, it's important to consult with a skilled personal injury attorney as soon as possible to preserve your rights to commence legal action if indicated.

Not only can an experienced attorney advise you regarding how the “No-Fault” Insurance law works in New York, and likely negotiate a more favorable settlement from the insurance company, but an attorney can help you pursue a private personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit if your damages exceed $50,000 or you have suffered a serious injury.

A personal injury action may be appropriate where your injuries were caused by the reckless, negligent, or intentional actions of somebody else. If you can establish someone else is liable for your injuries, you may be entitled to compensatory damages for such things as medical bills, lost wages, property damage, emotional pain and suffering, and more depending on the circumstances of your particular case.

If you have been injured in an accident of any kind which was not your fault, or if a loved one has been killed, the Goldstein Law Firm can help you recover the compensation to which you are entitled. Contact us today for a free consultation.
