City Bus Accident Leaves Trail of Death and Injury

Q: Is the bus driver always liable in a bus accident?

City bus accident attorneys know that when a city bus careens off-course, there's no telling how many casualties might result by the time the bus comes to a stop.

Every person seriously injured in such an instance --pedestrians, other drivers, or bus passengers – –may need a personal injury attorney to help them secure much-needed monetary compensation to cope with their physical and psychological pain and the financial burden the accident has caused. Among the damages, the victim may collect are current and future medical expenses, current and future lost income, property damage, pain and suffering, and more.

In addition, close survivors of the victims killed as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident may also be entitled to damages from the person responsible. While wrongful death lawsuits are complicated in terms of which relatives have standing to sue and for what damages, those relatives that do have standing to sue may be entitled to damages for the victim’s final medical and funeral expenses, the victim’s pain and suffering, and other damages for financial and other losses suffered by the relatives as a result of the victim’s death.

Recently, a family relaxing by a kiddie pool on the front lawn was devastated when an out of control city bus reportedly jumped a curb and slammed into the father killing him instantly before coming to a rest when it hit the house. Two others on the scene narrowly avoided the bus and were reportedly "rescued from under a fence and hospitalized for pain".

According to witnesses and authorities, the incident began when the bus driver for unknown reasons allegedly ran a red light, struck two vehicles, and crossed over another avenue before jumping the curb and "hitting three people and killing one". In total, in addition to the three people injured or killed on the front lawn, the drivers of both cars that were struck, the bus driver, and two of the 16 bus passengers were hospitalized. It was unclear why the bus driver apparently lost control of the bus.

In order to recover in a personal injury lawsuit or wrongful death action, the accident must have been caused by the negligent, reckless, or intentional actions or inactions of another person or entity.
