Is playing Russian roulette negligent, reckless, or intentional behavior?

When New York police brutality and misconduct attorneys get called with inquiries on whether they have a case, it’s often stemming from a police officer’s alleged brutality or misconduct against them or one of their loved ones.

But a recent incident allegedly involving a game of Russian roulette among three St. Louis Police officers could result in a wrongful death lawsuit in addition to the criminal charges already filed.

Russian roulette—where a single bullet is loaded into a gun and participants take turns aiming it and pulling the trigger-- reportedly left one female officer dead and another officer criminally charged “with involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action” in connection with her death. The woman allegedly died from being shot in the chest by the man, reportedly in the third round of the alleged activity.

Each of the officers was reportedly on the force for two years or less. The two male partners were on duty and the female victim was off-duty at the time of the incident at one of the male officers’ homes, according to reports.

If someone is killed as a result of the negligent, reckless, or intentional actions of another person or entity, their closest surviving relatives may be entitled to compensatory damages through a wrongful death lawsuit.

If they can establish liability, they can generally recover the final medical and funeral expenses of the victim. In addition, depending on the relationship to the victim and the particular circumstances, damages for financial and other losses caused by the victim’s death may be recoverable.

It’s important to consult with a skilled wrongful death attorney as soon as possible, particularly if a municipal government entity may be involved, for advice on this complex area of law and to avoid forfeiting your right to sue due to missing important filing deadlines.

If you or a loved one has been injured or a loved one has been killed as a result of someone else’s actions, the Goldstein Law Firm may help maximize the compensation to which you may be entitled. Contact us today for a free consultation.
