Q: Are elder abuse cases rising?
They call them the “Golden Years”, but for those facing life in a nursing home or similar long-term care facility, they may be anything but golden. Virtually no one dreams of spending their sunset years in an institutional setting. But for those without spouses or grown children or other family or friends to care for them—or those with special medical needs or psychological issues that require substantial daily care or attention—nursing home care may be unavoidable.
While the vast majority of facilities are staffed with dedicated professionals who provide quality and compassionate care for the elderly or disabled, the sad reality is that many residents in nursing homes and long-term care facilities become victims of elder abuse. And the numbers are rising.
